Knowledge Based Systems is an active peer-reviewed scientific journal covering computer science, with a particular focus on knowledge-based systems and artificial intelligence. It was established in 1987 and is published bimonthly by Elsevier.

The journal publishes original creative research results in the field of fifth-generation computing, expert systems, and knowledge-based methods in system design with an interdisciplinary and applications-oriented approach. The approach is designed to provide a balanced coverage of both theory and practical study in the field and to encourage new development and implementation of knowledge-based intelligence models, methods, systems, and software tools, with applications in business, government, education, engineering and healthcare.
